For seven years, our client’s divorce sat stalled with little meaningful progress. According to the client, opposing counsel, family law attorney Bryan Ciyou of Ciyou & Associates, P.C., repeatedly failed to provide required financial disclosures, and the ongoing stonewalling made settlement impossible. When the US~Observer began investigating, Ciyou called our newsroom, branded the coverage a “smear piece,” cut the conversation short, and produced no documents to support his client. Our reporting went further, publishing complaints from other parties who allege excessive billing, missing work product, and withheld evidence, including a pending legal malpractice lawsuit.
Public scrutiny changed everything. Just 62 days after the US~Observer investigation began, and less than 40 days after Ciyou’s call, the case settled without Ciyou or his client ever producing the documents they had promised. “The litigants came to their senses,” our client said, crediting the coverage for ending a seven-year ordeal in a matter of weeks. The US~Observer’s investigation into Bryan Ciyou continues, and anyone with direct knowledge of his family law matters is encouraged to contact us confidentially at 602-960-4609 or submissions@usobserver.net.
