Jessica Morton
Case Type: Felony Sex Abuse
Outcome: Dismissed
“If it wasn’t for the US~Observer I would have spent up to 10 years in prison on a false claim.”
Jessica Morton was the all-American girl. In high school she played softball exceptionally well and won a full ride scholarship to college to play it. In college she found a calling to help people and her degree carried her to a job where her education could do just that – help people. Unfortunately for Jessica, it is a cold, hard reality that some people want to hurt those who seek to help them. Jessica was accused by one of the clients at a state-sponsored youth facility of having intimate relations with him when he was 17 years old. Up to that point Jessica had been the facility’s most commended employee.
Felony Sex Abuse
After the allegations, Jessica was forced to strip and be photographed. Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Detective John Lohrfink aided in helping District Attorney Ryan Mulkins, and Prosecutor Matthew Corey’s filing of her false criminal charges. She lost her job. She was threatened with losing her child. She was arrested, facing 10 years in prison. She had to spend tens of thousands of dollars to defend a baseless accusation.
But, she had the backing of the US~Observer.
We found the facts and presented them to the officials and the public.
It ended with Josephine County, Oregon, District Attorney Ryan Mulkins extorting $225.00 from her to make all the charges go away.
