On this day, May 20th, 2024, Clara Davis-Fambro was laid to rest.

Clara was a beautiful soul whose life was almost ended before its time almost two years ago under the care of a guardian gone wild. Clara had been placed on hospice by her guardian, even though Clara had never been diagnosed with a life-ending disease or disorder. She was being drugged at the home the guardian selected. Clara was for all intents and purposes being left to rot while the guardian spent Clara’s estate. Fortunately, because of the US~Observer, Clara’s guardianship was transferred to her loving daughter, Dollie.

Dollie was able to get her mom home and healed. They spent days, then months in each other’s company, laughing, loving, rejoicing in the moments they had been granted.

And then on April 23rd, Dollie called editor and investigator Ron Lee to break the news: “Ron, Mom passed away yesterday … Ron, truly, thank you. I got the best time ever with my Mom. In the end, I slept at the hospital every day and she told me that she was glad that I fought for her. She knew. Thank you so much, Ron. I can’t tell you what you gave back to me.”

Elderly Exploitation is Real but Avoidable

As our population ages, the issue of elder abuse and exploitation has become increasingly prevalent, with one particularly troubling aspect being the misuse of guardianship arrangements. In some cases, elderly individuals are taken from their homes and placed under the care of court-appointed guardians who seemingly prioritize financial gain over the well-being of those they are supposed to protect.

Furthermore, guardians who neglect their duties may fail to provide adequate care and support for the elderly person’s physical and emotional well-being. This can include neglecting medical needs, denying access to essential services, or subjecting the individual to abusive or exploitative conditions.

What makes this situation particularly heartbreaking is the impact it has on families who feel as if they are powerless to intervene on behalf of their elderly loved ones. Despite their best efforts to advocate for their parents’ well-being, adult children are often sidelined by the legal system, with guardians wielding unchecked power and authority over their parents’ lives.
